+SQUARESTUDIO
le petit dame
An inheritance the owner received her grandparents and previously a bare room, the space is reinvented as an apartment, outfitted with its own kitchen, bathroom, sleeping compartment, and living space. The vintage furniture, the salvaged fixtures, and the original cement tiles invoke a nostalgic elegance that is reflective of its owner, a young writer whose favourite is classic Vietnamese literature.

Floor lamp made from salvaged parts. Vintage bench refinished and dressed with new cushions.

Inherited armchairs and table. Vintage bookcase.

Retrofitted kitchen area with new cooktop and sink with custom aluminium backsplash.

For the project to remain within a modest budget and to retain as much of the original structure as possible, wiring for electrical fixtures is surface-mounted and at minimum 1.2 metre away from floor for safety reasons. This created an opportunity for decor with composed lines, reminiscent of a Mondrian painting. A modest bathroom is added on raised floor to accommodate the required plumbing without significant structural modification.
